“Block N Style brings you a traditional art carried down by generations starting from the 18th century.”

In the district of Katiyadwad in Gujarat  late Shri Mool chand ji chhipa got inspired by the art of block printing. To pursue the art of block printing he moved to Gagadu village near Jaipur and with his son Shri Harnathji. The father son duo started creating timeless Rajputi turban, which are inspired by the colours and beauty of Indian culture and tradition. Block printed in natural dyes, these turbans adorned the royal court of  jaipur. Falling in love with the art from his childhood days Harnathji Chhipa became a renowned artist for his traditional menth printing.

Taking the legacy ahead, the third generation of the Chippa family Late Shri Balchandji Chhipa (1884-1962) was famous for this tapai fabric chintz which are based on the natural sun bleach process .

After strengthening the roots in Sanganer, Jaipur, late Shri Ram Kishoreji Chhipa the fourth generation of the Chippa family departed on a voyage to Mumbai J J School of arts to pass the heritage and bring fame to the family / craft and inspire the new generations with the rich heritage. Back in Sanganer his son Shri Awdhesh Pandey continued  the patronage.

Shri Awdhesh Pandey started his journey in the year 1971 which was a revolutionary era in the history of printing .He has been graced by many awards like Govt. of India National merit award in 2008, State Award for his work natural dyes in 1986 by Govt of Rajasthan. Utakristh Shilpi award by Uttar Pradesh Government in 1996. Jaipur Ratna award by Rajasthan Government in 1997, Kala Shri award by Haryana Government in 2001. Kala Nidhi award by Suraj Kund Craft Samiti in 2006 for his distinctive work in the field of block printing. Today he is a renowned name in the field of block printing and an expert in the natural dyeing process.

A  two time National Awardee, he is a master craft person who feels humbled to have gained vast knowledge and now spends his major time in social welfare “rangaichapai kala prakosth” which works for sustaining the art and training hand block printing artisans, and teaching the art across the globe. Since 1985 more than 5000 textile students have gained knowledge of Natural dyeing & printing by him. He is also a guest faculty at  NIFT Delhi, IIcd Jaipur, Pearl Academy, Vansthali vidya peeth Jaipur, Women Polytechnic college Jaipur, Indian Institute of Handloom Technology Jodhpur.

A.K.Textiles Pvt Ltd,, was founded in 1994 laying a formal stone by building a company that would cater to the demand of people across the globe who wanted the art of Mr Awdhesh Pandey to adorn their homes. And also in turn provide livelihood to more than 100 artisans and their families in and around Sanganer. The company prides itself in catering to the demand of more than 300 prestigious labels of fashion and home furnishing from India and abroad.

Taking forward the legacy of his father with a broader outlook  Mr Ashish Pandey the 6th generation of the Chippa family. He himself is a glorified craftsman and has received a state award in the year 2010 for his remarkable work in the field of natural dyeing and printing. Ashish Pandey has performed live demonstrations of ancient craft technique in various International fairs across the globe. He is a true artist who is inspired by the smaller details that define the grandiosity of large monuments.

Mr Ashish laid the foundation of “Block and Style” in 2020 amidst the pandemic to deliver authentic products directly to the end users at an affordable price and help the craftsmen working for him by sharing his profits and uplifting their lifestyle and motivate them from not leaving the city and travel back to their villages as they felt helpless with their daily income source dripping. According to Mr Ashish he wants to make each of the craftsmen and workers associated with him become independent  and if a situation like this ever comes again they don’t struggle.

 Mr Pandey aims to enter the retail space and take authentic hand crafted products from the lanes of Sanganer to the homes of millions. He dreams to design innovative products that can be used in the modern era. He says that today middlemen make the profits and the craftsmen are left with very little on their plate. Through block and style Mr Ashish wishes so that he can revive and revitalize techniques he has learnt from his ancestors in the machine made age.
